History
The Diocesan history is one of suffering, martyrdom, and perseverance. The Diocese of Rumbek has suffered through over forty years of war, yet has remained steadfastly with the people, even though many of its members were imprisoned, captured, tortured and sometimes, killed for their beliefs.
In 2005, in celebration of the 50th Jubilee of the Diocese of Rumbek, as well as the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the Diocese published Gold in the Crucible, a brief history and summary of the diocese. It is by no means complete or exhaustive, but it serves as a hint at the sufferings the diocese and its sisters, priests, brothers and faithful have undergone in the name of their faith.
